The list continues to grow. Thirty-four departments are now placed on orange “rain-flood”, “flood”, or “wind” alert, due to the passage of the Kirk depression this Wednesday, October 9.
In its 10 a.m. bulletin, Météo France placed Ain on orange alert for strong winds. Haute-Savoie and Savoie remain on yellow alert for the moment.
In detail, 23 departments are on “rain-flood” alert : Aisne, Loire-Atlantique, Meuse, Sarthe, Ardennes, Aube, Eure-et-Loir, Indre-et-Loire, Loir-et-Cher, Loire-Atlantique , Loiret, Maine-et-Loire, Marne, Mayenne, Oise, Sarthe, Paris, Seine-et-Marne, Yvelines, Deux-Sèvres, Vendée, Essonne, Hauts -de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-de-Marne and Val-d’Oise. Eleven departments are on “wind” vigilance : Loire, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Hautes-Pyrénées, Rhône, Ain, Doubs, Isère, Jura, Hautes-Pyrénées, Haute-Saône and Saône-et-Loire. And five departments are on alert “raw” : Haute-Saône, Saône-et-Loire, Seine-et-Marne, Vendée and Vosges.
Gusts up to 110 km/h
The wind will pick up during the day, as the Kirk depression passes through the Lyon region and Dauphiné, up to Val-de-Saône and Franche-Comté. During the afternoon and evening, south to southwest gusts ranging from 90 to 110 km/h are expected in these regions, already weakened by heavy rain at the start of the week.
The wind will also blow to the west of the Pyrenees. Gusts will reach 120 to 150 km/h on the peaks and 100 to 110 km/h in the valleys.
Continuous rains
From the Pays de la Loire to Champagne-Ardenne, the rains are continuous and sustained. The accumulations over the whole day will be around 50 to 70 mm and up to 60 to 80 mm. Quantities which generally fall within a month in the regions concerned. Floods are to be feared, in a context of already wet soils.
