Illegal rave party Parnay in Maine-et-Loire: a man died of cardiorespiratory arrest

A man aged around thirty died this Sunday, May 12, in the morning of a cardiorespiratory arrest during the undeclared rave party, organized since Thursday in Parnay, near Saumur.

The Maine-et-Loire prefecture announced the death of a man in his thirties in Parnay (near Saumur), this Sunday, May 12, 2024 in the morning. He died following a cardiorespiratory arrest, during an illegal rave party which ended at midday and had lasted for three days. Some 10,000 people gathered there.

The victim was treated very quickly by the emergency services but unfortunately died on the spot, said theAFP the sub-prefect of Saumur, Christophe Carol.

An open judicial investigation

A judicial investigation was opened under the authority of the public prosecutor of Saumur and no information on the potential causes of death has been communicated at this stage.

The undeclared rave party ended at midday on Sunday and many participants had already started to leave the site.

Around 200 people were treated by rescuers and firefighters present at the rave party site, and at least ten were transported to hospital, said the sub-prefect of Saumur.

The revelers came from all over France to take part in this event which took neighboring towns and the authorities by surprise despite a prefectural decree prohibiting festive gatherings throughout the long Ascension Bridge weekend.

Lack of sanitation and drinking water

The Maine-et-Loire prefecture notably denounced the lack of sanitation and access to drinking water on the site, private agricultural land lost in the middle of vineyards on the edge of a wood. The participants emphasized that catering outlets were available on site.

Friday afternoon, more than 24 hours after the arrival of the first partygoers, the local authorities had to install a temporary water point nearby. The authorities were also concerned about access difficulties for emergency vehicles.
