Let’s go for three days of competition, Dakar in search of a three-day pass!

The 24th edition of the Flag of the Head of State began this Friday in Mbour where the team competition promises to be very close between the defending champion Dakar and Thiès who wants to remain sovereign at home.

Mbour will be the scene of the 24th edition of the Flag of the Head of State where each of the fourteen regions will present five wrestlers in 5 different weight categories (66 kg, 76 kg, 86 kg, -100 kg and over 100 kg).

The draw for this edition scheduled for May 9 to 12 was made this Thursday and the pools are as follows: Pool A : Dakar, Tamba and Louga, Pool B : Thiès, St Louis, Diourbel, Pool C : Kaolack, Sédhiou, Matam, Kolda and finally the Pool D with Fatick, Kédougou, Kaffrine and Ziguinchor.

Towards a Dakar v Thiès duel!

The region of Thiès, of which Mbour is one of its three departments, is hosting the tournament for the second time after 2019. It is precisely the last time that the region of Thiès won the team competition before disappearing from the radar to let free rein in Diourbel and Dakar who won the last two editions in Diourbel and Saint Louis. The Senegalese capital therefore hopes to make the pass of three even if it will be deprived of its legendary captain Modou Faye known as “Computer”.

However, we must not underestimate the outsiders that are the regions of Fatick and Kaolack (zero titles to date). Once unplayable in this simple wrestling tournament with unparalleled talents which had won five titles in a row, the Sine region has now been forgotten for six years. This edition in Mbour could therefore be the hour of rebirth for these regions which saw the birth of some of the greatest wrestling champions, namely the emperor of the arenas Yahya Diop Yékini and the leader of the “Bul Faalé” generation Mohamed Ndao Tyson.
