The first edition of the Miam festival will be held from Saturday October 12 to Sunday October 27, 2024 throughout the Metropolis. For the occasion, more than 150 events will be offered to promote local agriculture: taste events, farm visits, exhibitions and even film screenings.

Miam festival, an event focused on agriculture

Every day during these two weeks, activities will take place almost everywhere in the territory of the Lyon Metropolis, from Saint-Priest to Curis-au-Mont-d’Or, via Francheville.

Many farmers and producers will welcome festival-goers to raise awareness among young and old about what is hidden on their plates. The farmer-baker from Émile’s farm, located in Collonges-au-Mont-d’Or, will welcome participants around a tasting of cookies, brioches and other sourdough breads and will reveal the secrets of his organic bread. On the Genay side, the mill and pasta manufacturing workshop of the Piamot farm will open their doors, an opportunity to learn more about the cereals that we eat every day. In Francheville, Lucile will share her passion for organic farming, the opportunity to discuss the principles of permaculture.

A long 15 km hike which will cross Décines-Charpieu, Vaulx-en-Velin and , on October 19, is organized by the Kaypacha association, partner of the Miam festival. Collective garden, cooperative grocery store, third-party food, market gardening are places that participants will be able to connect by walking. Several departures are planned in the program.

Whether you are a good walker for the long 15 km hike (departing from Décines-Centre), or a walker enthusiast (a short hike in the morning departing from Décines-Centre and another in the afternoon departing from the Pont de Décines), here is the opportunity to meet those who hold on: the Vartan gardens, the Pot’iras, Cannelle et Piment, the Melting Coop and the Archipel – the Cantine. Participants will have the opportunity to reserve a committed lunch basket prepared by Cannelle et Piment, a caterer which offers integration through economic activity. Upon arrival, the Anciela association, partner of the festival, will present the initiatives of the Lyon region, more numerous than one imagines.

The city of Lyon will also be at the heart of the event with activities in almost all of its districts. The opportunity to discover the animals, orchards and market gardening of the Lyon farm, the last in the city (Lyon 9e). But also to create your own pizzas during workshops organized by the Mob hotel (Lyon 2e) or explore the underground urban farm Cycloponics (Lyon 8e).

Culinary workshops in Lyon

The launch of this major festival will take place on the Place de la République (Lyon 2e) during the Lyon braderie festival, from Friday October 11 to Sunday October 13, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., within the food entertainment center. On the program for these three days: tastings, meetings with local producers or even jar-making workshops on the stand run by the Ripaï association (health and food expert).

In the wake of this first highlight, the Métropole de Lyon will offer the broadcast of the film “The Theory of the Boxer”, at the Hôtel de Métropole (Lyon 3e), on Wednesday October 16 at 6:30 p.m., in the presence of its director Nathanaël Coste. A feature film that invites us to think about the adaptation of agricultural and food practices in our territories.

On Saturday October 19, Bouillon de cultures, a flagship event of the festival, will take place in the Faitout restaurant, in La Mulatière (next to Les Grandes locos), from 2 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The opportunity to come together around culinary events, exhibitions and round tables.

A final meeting initiated by the Metropolis will take place at the Cité de la Gastronomie (Lyon 2e), on Thursday October 24 from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sonia Bichet, Best Worker in Fishmonger – Scaler, will lead a parent-child workshop centered around a trout tartare with different variations.
