This charming town in Gard is getting a serious facelift: its old center is transformed

The inauguration has just taken place. Engaged for several months in promoting its historic center, the town of Uzès, in the Gard, can rejoice in the serious facelift given to the Duchy Square and to the Place Marquise-de-Crussol.

This new important step comes just after the development of the historic center, the Docteur-Blanchard district, Bourgades, Sigalon, and more recently that of Saint-Roman.

Aesthetic continuity

“Faced with traffic difficulties, uncontrolled parking, the devaluation of the architectural ensemble and the lack of green spaces, a complete requalification program has been initiated,” specifies the City.

The stated objective is clear: to create a aesthetic continuity in the old center“while combining attractiveness and heritage enhancement”.

For several weeks, the participating companies carried out several operations at the place which hosts the Bermonde Tower (XII^e century), its ramparts and its corner towers.

Earthworks, grading of works, replacement and/or repair of networks, repair of façade base coatings, modification of lighting, replacement of buried columns on Place du Duché, paving, installation of street furniture, reimplantation of trees …The famous place made makeover !

Adjustments for Place Marquise-de-Crussol

Regarding Place Marquise-de-Crussol, a fountain was created and toilets made available to the public.

The total cost of the work reached €1,699,710.58 incl. VAT (€1,416,425.48 excluding VAT). The Occitanie Region awarded a grant of €72,000. Uzétians were able to enjoy a snack accompanied by a jazz concert, Monday May 6, 2024, to mark the occasion in the company of the mayor of the town: Jean-Luc Chapon.
