The Department of Sleeve has just signed a partnership with the town of Gatteville-le-Phare at the Maison du Département de Saint-Lô.

This commitment, via the Rural Investment Fund, aims to financially support the municipality within the framework of the renovation of the business and its accommodation.

Thanks to this system, the municipality has a mobilizable envelope of €43,016 from the Department. Furthermore, in order to support the community in the implementation of exemplary projects in terms of ecological and inclusive transitions, the Department is setting up a 20% bonus of the amount of financial aid allowing the municipality to benefit from an additional bonus of €8,603.

A flagship project

While many small municipalities such as Le Vast, Gonneville-Le Theil, Teurthéville-Bocage or even Fermanville have seen their local businesses close for several years, Gatteville-le-Phare is committed to breathing new life into the bakery-grocery store located on the village square.

The bakery has always satisfied locals, owners of second homes, but also people passing through the town. In March 2021, operators in place since 2015 were forced – for medical reasons – to stop their activity.

With a view to revitalizing our town, we are committed to allowing residents to always benefit from local commerce in the town. This is the reason why we chose to acquire the walls and the funds of the bakery-grocery store which had been closed for several years.

Christine Léonard, mayor of Gatteville-le-Phare

The mayor specifies that the renovation work is engaged for three weeks. This business, which also has a upstairs accommodationbenefits from potential and an ideal location with nearby parking and the road leading to the lighthouse, which drains a flow of more than 50,000 visitors per year.

Aid to rural communities

First historical partner of local authorities, the Department of Manche, as part of its territorial policy 2022-2028, creates a new dynamic to support rural communities in carrying out their projects. Thanks to the Rural Investment Fund, 373 eligible municipalities may, over a period of two years, request a financial assistance for specific projects.

For each municipality, the Department has determined an overall envelope valid for the two years of the system, calculated on the basis of €100 per inhabitant and between €50,000 and €100,000. A 20% increase in financial aid is possible for the most virtuous projects.
