Ndiaffate/ division of an area of 235 ha: the populations of around ten villages stand up against the mayor

Furious at the latest operations to divide up rural areas carried out in 2023 on the outskirts of the commune, the populations of around ten villages surrounding Ndiaffate beat the tarmac yesterday, Sunday. These operations, which concerned an area of 235 ha according to the populations, were carried out without the approval of the sub-prefect. Today this fragmentation impacts a population of more than 3,000 souls spread across the villages of Ndiaffate, Keur Gallo, Sendeng, Goundiour, Keur Mamadou Aïssata, NDiaffate Peulh, NDiaffate Socé, Ndiaffate Escale among other villages. Not only will these populations no longer be able to work the land, but they will see their livestock activities reduced due to the advance of salty land in a strip conquered by the “Salins du Saloum” thanks to a partnership for the allocation of plots which links the company to the commune of Ndiaffate. For these populations, the harm became deeper when it was noted that these fragmentation operations did not concern the mayor’s relatives, his parents in this case, but the rest of the resident citizens. An accusation that Mayor Astou Ndiaye brushed aside, affirming that throughout all the stages, the process of dividing up this part of Ndiaffate was carried out according to the rules of the art. In other words, depending on the laws and regulations. Given the high demand for land, the populations have all agreed on the division of areas which can no longer accommodate fields. » After the municipal deliberation, it was a project that was first discussed with the field holders. And everyone agreed on the principle,” added Mayor Astou Ndiaye. “But the root of this problem is that the town hall wanted at a given moment to put an end to the numerous disputes caused by certain citizens, owners of fields who kept selling their fields or illicitly allocated them to other people.”
