The latter shared, on Sunday evening, on her X account, a video in which she explains how her administration is working to fight against the social phenomenon.

“The objectives that our administration has set for itself are clear: to house more Montrealers in a suitable and affordable manner, to create pleasant living environments and to improve social diversity in our neighborhoods,” Ms. Plante says in the video.

The way to achieve this, she says, is to “dare to think outside the box.”

“We must build more, work with other levels of government and partners so that the Montreal real estate market remains affordable,” specifies the mayor.

As July 1 approaches, many households fear finding themselves on the street because they cannot find affordable rent.

TVA Nouvelle also met, on Sunday, a woman from the South Shore of Montreal who, due to the shortage of affordable housing, will soon be forced to live in her minivan.
