Wisdom, kindness, modesty: these are the words that come to describe this geese bistro with its croquignolet setting with its two rooms on each side of the street, its wooden tables, its musical instruments adorning the walls, its tempting slates, its dishes good child. Stéphane Dantier, an old-fashioned innkeeper, formerly trained in the kitchen, and a long time in the dining room, has made it his gourmet and picturesque lair for a quarter of a century.

We are a few steps from the Saint-Louis hospital and the Saint-Martin canal, in a popu Paris which has managed to keep its character, being “booistic” without excess.. We come there to treat ourselves with pretty bottles and traditional dishes, scrupulously guaranteed to be “homemade”. Here we grab the herring apples in oil, the pretty chicken liver mousse, the duck and pork pâté, served with their mixed salad.

As for the food, tender beef steak skewers and soft home fries, solid old-fashioned duck confit and… re-home fries are a real pleasure. The desserts are nicely regressive, like the pleasant rice pudding and caramel or the chocolate fondant and whipped cream. And, when it comes to wines by the glass, we opt for the house choice of slate which gives pride of place to the owners’ vintages.

We thus enjoy the fresh Gaillac “far from the eye” from Domaine Gayraud 2022, the fruity Syrah from Sarailler made in Ardèche from Mas d’Intras signed Denis Robert and Sébastien Pradal 2023 or even the full-bodied Madiran from Château Barréjat 2021 which quietly works wonders on confit. A house you can trust!
