After 18 years spent in the National PoliceMathieu Guillet decided to open Casa Miaoufa boarding house for dogs and cats in Plessé (Loire Atlantique). The first animals can be welcomed from July 1, 2024.

From the police to the dog boarding house

Two years ago, Mathieu Guillet was brigadier in the national police in Île-de-France. A profession he practiced for 18 years, eight of which were in equestrian function. “So I already had a relationship with animals in my career,” he explains.

Wishing to return to live in the Region, the former police officer had sent a transfer request, which turned out to be unsuccessful. HAS today 45 years oldhe had to find a professional activity again.

I had a period of self-questioning, which also allowed me to realize that I no longer enjoyed my job as much.

Then the click is done in January 2023 while he is in front of the television with his wife Béatrice watching a report on a dog breeding. What followed was a period of nine months of project studies to clarify its expectations and ambitions. His wife was a strong support for the communication part.

The idea of ​​opening my boarding house for dogs and cats allows me to work outdoors, with animals and to have a relationship with customers.

A project which pushed him to resign in March 2023.

Several animal formations

Already surrounded by two cats and two dogs, Mathieu Guillet is used to it. But working with a larger number of canines is not the same experience.

I’m used to animals. I know how to care for them and understand them, but I am not an educator.

The former police officer therefore followed certain training courses essential to opening his dog and feline boarding facility, such as Acaced in July 2023. It will also be monitored and controlled by a veterinarian, that of Plessé who accepted.

In addition, several health standards must be respected, for the well-being and safety of the animals, as well as the peace of mind of the owners.

Supported by the town hall which guided it, the project was finalized in September 2023.

20 dogs can be accommodated in Plessé

While his private property covers 7,000 m², he is currently transforming 3,500 m² for his new job. 20 dogs can be accommodated in total.

The dog boxes will consist of a wooden cabin of 4 m² and a small individual courtyard of 6 m².

The cats will be kept in a cat flap attached to the office.

The work having started the second week of April, the opening is scheduled for July 1, 2024. Registrations should begin at the beginning of June. For cats, it will be necessary wait for September 2024.

On the pricing side, two prices have been set. It will be necessary to count €17.50 per night during school holidays and €15 the rest of the year.

“The price takes into account the food, but owners can bring their own kibble. Supplements can also be added,” he lists.

A busy and busy day

Although he has not yet started his activity, Mathieu Guillet’s daily program is already well timed. From 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., he will walk the dogs in groups for an hour each. After that, he will clean their boxes. “At 12 p.m. sharp, I will serve them the meal, before starting a good nap,” he continues.

A time of rest which will allow him to take over from the cats and take care of the administrative part, until 4 p.m.

A third and final period will follow, until 7 p.m., for the last outing dogs.
