Before the sunny days, a road safety operation called “ path » was organized by the gendarmerie in Château-Gontier-sur-Mayenne. The principle is simple: around twenty bikers have registered to take part in a 120 kilometer ride, this Saturday May 4, 2024, following a soldier. Note that the rain was there.
Before departure, participants were briefed. Then, every 25 kilometers, the order of the line of each group, made up of four people, changed. The soldier at the head of the procession could then make his observations to the participants.

Captain Thierry Scudellaro, head of the Mayenne departmental road safety squadron (EDSR), explains: “ The important thing was to take them on all types of roads, from small paths to the old national road (now RD 962, Editor’s note). The theme is the recovery of the handlebars and the trajectories. With the rain, we adapted the speed. »
The participants interviewed welcome the initiative. Like Tatiana Foucault, from Entrammes. She got back on her motorbike about six months ago, having had her license for more than twenty years. “ It’s freedomshe assures. I had stopped to take care of my family. It was a great experience, I feel like I gained in dexterity, and above all regained confidence. » For her, the rain was even a plus. “ It better be ugly! » To be ready for all conditions.
“We can develop bad habits”
Bruno Coquard, from Ernée, agrees: “ It’s not insignificant, this kind of day. It’s a booster shot. This allows you to work on trajectories. » He believes he has acquired “ small techniques “, but above all appreciates having “ worked a lot on anticipation, looking into the distance, the environment… Sometimes, our vigilance can be a little less, and we can develop bad habits. » The man claims to travel no less than 15,000 kilometers per year.
A similar operation, also with 20 participants, was held in Mayenne on April 13, 2024.
