You might see their pink pinafores this weekend when you go shopping. This Friday and until Sunday, the Restos du Cœur collection takes place in Haute-Garonne. 3,000 volunteers will be mobilized at the entrance to 114 stores (mostly supermarkets) in different locations in the department. After the major national collection every year in February, some of the departmental branches organize a second collection during the year. This is the case in Haute-Garonne to try to meet an increasingly large demand because the large national collection in February is no longer enough.
A year ago, the president of Restos launched an appeal for fear of having to refuse meals. As a result, donations increased last season at the national level. Here, in Haute-Garonne, they remained stable, i.e. 153 tonnes collected during the last campaign. But demand continues to increase in the department’s 37 centers. More and more retirees are showing up. Students too, mostly under 25 years old. The prices of certain products have soared. An inflation which also affects donations. “Donors give non-perishable foods. If possible, we would need to diversify the collection a little with desserts for example”explains Stéphanie Chifflet, food collection manager for restaurants in Haute-Garonne.

The Restos du Cœur in Haute-Garonne are also looking for volunteers this weekend to help sort the collections. The 37 Restaurant centers will reopen next month in the department, on November 18 or 19.
