Dakar, Oct 3 (APS) – The President of the Republic Bassirou Diomaye Faye called, Thursday, on the Senegalese to engage in the fight against breast cancer on the occasion of the “Pink October” campaign, a dedicated initiative in the fight against this disease.

“I appeal to all Senegalese men and women to get involved in the fight against breast cancer,” declared the Head of State in a message published on the social network X.

”Our shared commitment will reduce cancer. The government of Senegal remains committed to strengthening public awareness to raise awareness of the disease and means of prevention,” added President Faye.

He reminded his compatriots, especially women, that the month of October is dedicated to the fight against breast cancer. “Each year in Senegal, he said, 1,838 new cases of breast cancer are recorded with some 976 deaths over the same period.”

The Head of State stressed that “behind these figures, we must also see that these women taken away are wives, mothers, sisters leaving behind many orphans and damaged families”.

“Every woman can be affected, our responsibility is to talk about it and raise awareness among as many women as possible, but above all to get early detection. This early detection makes it possible to treat cancer very early,” he declared.

The Head of State welcomed the decision of the Ministry of Health to reduce mammography from 30,000 to 15,000 FCFA throughout the month of October.
