The twelfth match was the good one! In Brno, Switzerland beat the Czech Republic 2-1 to pick up their first success of the season as part of the Euro Hockey Tour.

Five days before its entry into the World Championship, Switzerland forced the decision thanks to successes scored in the first third by Dario Simion and Calvin Thürkauf. It also owes its success to Leonardo Genoni who perfectly delivered the goods to remind us that he remained the country’s No. 1 goalkeeper. He was unable to do anything about the reduction of the score in the 57th minute by defender Jakub Krejcik.

Switzerland benefited from a certain success with Simion’s opening score in the 9th minute. The Zougois, in fact, found himself in an ideal position after a deflection of Fabrice Herzog’s skate on a throw from Michael Fora. 16” from the siren of this first third, Thürkaud doubled the lead in the backhand on a break brought by Philipp Kurashev.

This efficiency found during the first third, a very marked esprit de corps throughout the match and the form displayed by Genoni, who made a decisive save in the 5th minute against Ondrej Palat while Switzerland was playing five against four , instill measured confidence before Friday’s match against Norway for the three rounds of the World Championship. With the hoped-for reinforcements from Nino Niederreiter and Roman Josi, Patrick Fischer will even be able to place the cursor quite high.
