The 7th Tête de Moine Festival, which was held on Saturday and Sunday in Bellelay in the Bernese Jura, attracted more than 10,000 visitors. The event, which this year had the theme ‘Our Tradition’, was enlivened by numerous concerts, tastings and films.

The party began on Saturday in the presence of the Jura and Bernese state councilors, Jacques Gerber and Pierre Alain Schnegg. The guest of honor Peter Hegglin, president of the Sbrinz AOP Interprofession and president of IP Lait, highlighted the similarities and differences between the two AOP cheeses, the organizers said in a press release on Sunday.

After the official part, the public was able to enjoy themselves. Around fifty chalets offered local products. Jacques Gygax, president of the Tête de Moine Interprofession, recalled a successful year 2023 despite a difficult environment. Sales recorded a decline of 4%. The bar of 3,000 tonnes in sales and production was nevertheless exceeded for the third time in a row.

He also mentioned the creation of the new status of refiner and trader which is strategically crucial to preserve the added value of Tête de Moine AOP in the long term. The fight against counterfeits in Switzerland and abroad, essential to defend the uniqueness of the product and its rosette, was also mentioned.
