Last Tuesday, the head nurse at Keur Serigne Mbaye Sarr alerted the district to a fairly high number of cases of diarrhea recorded during the day, he said.
The investigation team immediately dispatched to the scene was able to note in the register of the health structure that around twenty cases of diarrhea and vomiting were actually recorded, he explained.
In an interview with journalists, Dr. Ndiaye noted that investigations showed that the day before, Monday May 20, the Cheikh Anta health post had also recorded eight cases, without counting the other cases subsequently counted in the other posts. health.
In total, around a hundred cases have been recorded for more than a week, he said, noting that they are scattered throughout the city of Diourbel and that most of them come from the Keur district. Serigne Mbaye Sarr.
For the moment, he informs, “we suspect a water origin”. He explains that “the results of the analysis carried out on water samples from several wells where the carters who resell the precious liquid in the city get their supplies, showed the presence of germs in the majority of the wells. “So we think this situation is water-related,” he said.
Dr. Ndiaye stressed, however, that investigations were continuing while awaiting the results of samples taken from patients, to determine the real causes of these cases of diarrhea and vomiting.
He indicated that the theory of food poisoning is ruled out given that the cases come from different neighborhoods and that the affected people had not consumed the same food.
The head doctor of the Diourbel health district invited people to respect hygiene measures and to bleach water before consumption. He also called for systematic hand washing, especially for children when they return from school before eating.
