To take advantage of a new genre of seventh art, the proposals are increasingly numerous and inventive throughout the territory. We’re rolling out the red carpet for around ten screenings, immersive experiences and exhibitions on display this summer across the province.

Mauricie

Ilya : new show inspired by legends

In Shawinigan, La Cité de l’énergie offers a new 360-degree show that takes place when the sun sets. It is presented as “a science fiction fable born from our history and our legends”. In the covered, rotating amphitheater which offers a view of the Saint-Maurice River, the 75-minute work recounts a conversation between Aube and its artificial intelligence which immerses the viewer in the nature of the region. From July 12 to August 31

Gaspésie

Free flight and geology

In Mont-Saint-Pierre, a Gaspé village of nearly 200 inhabitants, they say that “free flight is practically a religion”. To pay homage to this sport, the church is transforming this summer to become a performance hall which welcomes As the crow flies, a presentation dedicated to this discipline and which gives the impression of flying. Further up in the municipality, a second immersive experience is offered, this time about the geological phenomena of the area. Thanks to these unique shows, its reception pavilion with interior terrace, its new observatory at the top of Mont-Saint-Pierre and its footbridge on the cliffside, the village intends to evolve into a must-see on the Gaspésie route. From June 21 to October 12

Outaouais

Of Symphonic Baby to Pink Floyd

For the first time, this summer, we are offering two immersive experiences under a 360-degree outdoor dome at the Salle Odyssée of the Maison de la culture de Gatineau. The shows are aimed at two very different audiences. Those aged 0 to 17 will experience a musical, sensory and colorful moment in Symphonic Babywhile nostalgic fans will plunge into a very distinct universe thanks to the presentation Pink Floyd, The Dark Side Of The Moon. From 1er June to August 31

Montreal

A biennial under the theme of illusion

The International Biennial of Digital Art, presented by Elektra, at the Arsenal Contemporary Art Montreal, in Griffintown, is the largest exhibition dedicated to digital art in North America. It is under the theme Illusion that this seventh edition offers a reflection on our era of disinformation, a subject that we have heard more and more about in recent years. The event brings together around thirty artists from three continents. From May 31 to July 21

Engaged cinema under the stars

Since 2010, Cinema under the stars by Funambules Médias has offered each summer a program of around fifty films broadcast in different outdoor locations. At the heart of it: documentaries about social, political and environmental issues. For his 15the edition, local and international works are presented in 21 parks in Montreal, Longueuil and the Brome-Missisquoi region. The free screenings are followed by discussions. Visit their website or social media to access the programming that will be released soon. From June 26 to August 31

History differently

Inaugurated in 2016, Memory City Montreal, the largest video projection tour in the world, includes more than 25 paintings that unfold on buildings, trees or the ground of Old Montreal and the city center. Thanks to an application that accompanies the itinerary, and through different characters who share their stories, we discover the city’s past in an offbeat way. Since last year, Memory City also tells the story of the Charlevoix region through five projections of around ten minutes each and presented in La Malbaie, on the waterfront. Circuits to observe at nightfall. All summer

Different regions

Drive-ins: retro screenings

Classic of classics in Quebec: drive-ins! Yes, there are a handful of them that are still running, among others in Saint-Hilaire, Sherbrooke, Saint-Eustache, Val-David and Chandler. Most of them present their first films in spring, in April or May.

Cinema near you

In recent years, more and more neighborhoods or municipalities have been offering free outdoor screenings. Sometimes short films, sometimes children’s films, sometimes classics are shown in parks or alleys. Citizens bring their chairs or blankets as well as their snacks and that’s it! You have to find out about it on the website of our city or those in the surrounding area to take advantage of it.
