“I want a return to the voters,” declared Michel Rantonnet during a press conference this Thursday, October 3, 2024 to announce his resignation, as reported Progress.
Mayor of Francheville (municipality of the metropolis of Lyon) since 2014, the elected LR was in difficulty for many months within its own municipal council.
Elected officials from the majority group had turned against him
At the end of 2023, 17 of the 25 elected officials from the majority group “Francheville naturally” had decided to create an opposition group due to numerous disagreements with the mayor and had notably called for his resignation, accusing the councilor of an overly authoritarian mode of operation.
Since then, the situation has not improved.
Still according to our colleagues, Michel Rantonnet nevertheless retains his mandate as advisor to the Métropole de Lyon but has not yet commented on his possible candidacy to succeed him for Francheville.
