A new stormy wave is expected to extend from the South-West to the North-East this Sunday, May 5, 2024 in the afternoon and evening. Consequently, Météo France has placed the department of Gironde on yellow alert between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m.

“These storms are occasionally strong and may be locally accompanied by medium hail and heavy rain intensities. In places, these intensities of rain could have impacts on soils already saturated with water,” underlines Météo France.

This episode is linked to a small depression coming from Brittany, the cool air mass coming into conflict with the milder air from the south.

The risk of floods still relevant

As a reminder, the department is still placed on yellow alert for flood risks on the Garonne – Dordogne confluence. The tidal coefficients continue to increase (reaching 93 on Monday). Overflows of the Dordogne are expected for high tides on Sunday and Monday, and of the Garonne from Monday.

Calmer and sunny weather should return from Wednesday May 8. But before that, gusts of 40 km/h are expected this Sunday in Bordeaux. They will rise to 55 km/h on Monday and 45 km/h on Tuesday.
