Thanks to their 1-0 success in the final against Inter Miami, the OL U16s won the “Mémorial Jose Gaydu” international tournament in Guadeloupe.

This is good news for the OL academy. During the night from Saturday to Sunday, the U16s played the final of the “Jose Gaydu Memorial” international tournament. A competition taking place in Guadeloupe. They were opposed to Inter Miami.

Nicolas’ players Brown won this last match 1-0 thanks to a goal of Doganay. A success crowning an excellent run this week for the young Rhone residents. They finished second in their group after their victories against the selection of Martinique (4-0) and the Guadeloupeans of CA North Grand Terre (0-3), without forgetting the setback against the FC Selace (3-1).

In the quarter-finals, we had to face one of the favorites, Ajax Amsterdam. A mission perfectly carried out by the Gones, who won 2 to 1 by rather controlling the match. A feat obscured by Angel’s injury Garcia following a dangerous tackle from a Dutchman.

After this obstacle, the semi-final pitted them against Le Havre. Thanks to a double of Himbertbut also to the sacrifice of Hoareau, excluded for having stopped a Le Havre header with his hand and preventing the HAC from equalizing at the last second. To qualify for the final, it was also necessary that Bar stops the penalty in two stages, and the referee refuses the Normans’ goal which followed in general confusion (2-1).

Huge twists and turns for this U16 team, which was also able to count on great performances from Hamdani, decisive on numerous occasions. Lifting this trophy will not erase the overall disappointment of their season in U17, but it will give them a little smile after this adventure on the other side of the Atlantic.
