The arrival of a 13-year-old seal in Pairi Daiza should not be celebrated, but expressed as another example of animal cruelty. Zoos, even under the guise of conservation, can never provide a dignified and natural environment for these creatures. Seals are made to swim in the vast expanses of the ocean, not to be confined in artificial tanks. Their captivity often leads to psychological and physical suffering (like zoochosis, detected in so many animals in captivity), because they cannot express their natural behaviors or live in conditions adapted to their needs Under the guise of entertainment and pseudo -conservation, Pairi Daiza remains above all a lucrative business, where animal welfare comes second to financial interests. No matter the rhetoric about protecting species: the reality is that zoos exploit living beings for profit. For a society that claims to be civilized, it is time to put an end to this exploitation and protect animals where they should be: in their natural habitats, far from enclosures and captivity.
