“We are here for support. This is the only way to put pressure on universities,” said a demonstrator.

The rally was organized by the Palestinian Youth Movement.

On the McGill University campus, a spokesperson welcomed this support. “We expect to have more and more people. The weather is nice, classes are over,” he explained in the afternoon.

We won’t give up. We will continue to put pressure on the University [McGill] until it changes its policies.

The request for a provisional injunction against the McGill University encampment in Montreal rejected last Wednesday gave fuel to the campers, according to the spokesperson. “It was good news. »

By late evening, about 100 people were sitting on the lawn near Redpath Hall. In front of them, the film The Battle of Algiers was projected on a large screen installed a few meters from the camp.

More than sixty tents were pitched on the McGill University campus, seven days after the start of the encampment. “The support from the community has been extraordinary,” said one demonstrator, en route to the screening.

“Many groups come to encourage us and leave afterwards,” underlined another spokesperson for the camp.

On Friday, Prime Minister François Legault reiterated that the “illegal camp” must be dismantled. The demonstrators are demanding that the university sever all ties with Israel. Midweek, McGill University management asked protesters to leave campus.
