There Police is concerned about a scam in the department and wants to raise awareness among the population regarding thefts by trickery committed recently. THE the elderly are particularly targeted.

More precisely, the police warn of theft by false quality. Scammers pose as a professional (fake plumber, fake EDF technician, fake chimney sweep, fake police officer, etc.) in order to deceive a victim and him to steal of money or some objects.

A recent event in Alès

Very recently, these types of facts were observed in the Alès sector. People pretending to be police officers Or plumbers showed up at the homes of elderly people with the intention of diverting their attention to steal various items, including means of payment.

Police issue advice

Anxious to warn the population, the Gard National Police provides some advice to avoid this type of mishap:

Lock your doorseven if you are at home.
• When a stranger shows up at your door and claims to be employed by a company or an administration, check the interventioneven if the latter shows you a professional card, by a telephone call to the company or administration of which this person claims to be employed.

The police officers are provided with an electronic professional card, in credit card format, it includes the following identification signs: tricolor stripe, RED color OF THE WORD Police, reproduction of the police medal and the requisition notice, letters ” RF”, and mention of the rank.

Gard National Police

• Be extremely vigilant towards canvassers who come to your home, towards any unknown person that you have not authorized or any person who requests a service (e.g.: a child asking for a glass of water or wanting to retrieve a ball that has fallen in a garden, etc.).
• If you are alone)don’t report it.
• If you have authorized the person to enter, do not let them not alone in a room.
• If you are not sure of the quality of the person, postpone the meeting to a later date and request the presence of one of your loved ones for the next meeting.
• Feel free to call a neighbor or to a loved one, if necessary.

The Gard National Police also encourage you to call “17 POLICE EMERGENCY” if you witness a suspicious situation.
