A man in his forties, suffering from psychiatric disorders, was subdued by the Raid and hospitalized Friday evening at L’Hôpital (Moselle) after injuring a person and causing a gas explosion in his apartment.
The individual had retreated into his accommodation after lightly injuring a man who brought him food with a knife. The police, called to the scene, set up a security perimeter and cut off the gas. The maniac then set off an explosion which caused a fire in his apartment.
Injured by the explosion, the man was easily arrested by the Raid around 11:45 p.m. He was automatically hospitalized due to his psychiatric condition. The fire was quickly brought under control by firefighters.
According to the mayor of the town, the man was “obviously in crisis”. He was already known to the police and the courts for acts of violence and degradation. In 2020, he was sentenced to one year in prison for having disfigured a young man with a chopper as reported by BFMTV.
The explosion caused no other injuries. The residents of the building, who had been evacuated, were mostly able to return to their homes after the maniac was arrested.
