The Prime Minister of Quebec, François Legault, has no reason to intervene regarding the pro-Palestinian encampment currently taking place on the grounds of McGill University, according to an expert.

He “meddles in matters that do not concern him,” said Diane Lamoureux, spokesperson for the of Rights and Freedoms.

Mr. Legault mentioned this week that the occupation was done “illegally” and that he must have police intervention in order to break the encampment.

“He does not give much importance to freedom of expression and freedom of demonstration, which are fundamental freedoms,” she added during an interview with TVA Nouvelles.

Mme Lamoureux suggests that the Prime Minister reread the “Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms.”

The camp is here for good

The pro-Palestinian demonstrators are far from leaving the university grounds, having occupied the place for a week now.

Even though McGill requested that the encampment be lifted, the spokesperson explains that “the university community has not spoken out” and that “the university administration does not own the university.”

“For the moment, the camp does not put anyone in danger,” she thinks.

We expect to see more people at the camp on Saturday.
