In its bulletin published at 3:18 a.m., Thursday May 2, Météo-France lifted the orange alert for rain, flooding and thunderstorms throughout France. The violent storms, accompanied by hailstones and heavy rain, which hit Ile-de-France on Wednesday evening, subsided during the night, evacuating into the English Channel, towards England, according to the meteorological agency.
“Some rain, now lighter, still remains a little in the departments bordering the Channel, but no longer justifying orange vigilance”specifies Météo-France.
Calvados which remained on orange alert floods due to a risk of significant rises in water levels in the Touques basin have been downgraded to yellow vigilance in the morning bulletin.
Dozens of flights diverted from Roissy
“The violent storms were accompanied by strong electrical activity, fairly large hailstones and heavy precipitation accumulations”explains the agency.
According to the Flightradar website, around ten planes which were due to land at Roissy airport were diverted. Flights to Orly were also redirected to other airports. According to the dashboard of the Eurocontrol organization, the two Paris airports were closed to arrivals at 10:52 p.m. Images of flooding in terminal 2 of Roissy airport are also circulating on X.
It fell locally “between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. the equivalent of two weeks of rain in the month of May to the north and east of Paris”according to the Weather Channel.
