Spokespeople for the group say that activists do not intend to back down until McGill University stops funding certain organizations with ties to Israel.

Moreover, more demonstrators are expected this weekend. With classes now over at McGill, the camp could see several students swell its ranks.

In the neighborhood, opinions are divided on the camp. Here are some reactions collected by our journalist:

“It’s something that’s a little disturbing to see downtown, to hear the noise and to see everyone gathering. That doesn’t mean we can’t support the cause if we don’t agree with all the noise.”

“The world here is very calm. They want peace.”

“I believe it is very important that students demonstrate in the face of humanitarian issues.”

“I believe there are many ways to express yourself. It’s already time to return to our lives.”

Dismantling?

The City of Montreal Police Service ensures that it is monitoring the situation closely.

The Legault government, which called for the dismantling of the encampment, leaves the management of this situation to the SPVM.

Furthermore, a pro-Palestinian rally organized by students from Laval University takes place on Saturday in Quebec. The organizers assure that the event is intended to be peaceful.
