MONTREAL — The Montreal Port Authority (MPA) officially launches the cruise season on Saturday at the Grand Quai of the Port of Montreal.

To mark the kick-off, the President and CEO of the Port of Montreal, Julie Gascon, will highlight the arrival of the cruise ship Volendam, in the presence of the honorary consul of Ukraine in Montreal, Eugène Czolij.

“The ceremony will include the presentation of a work by Manon Sioui to the captain of the ship, as well as the inauguration of a new permanent exhibition dedicated to the 1,500 Ukrainian refugees who were hosted on the boat for several months in 2022,” specifies a press release from the Montreal Port Authority.

The Port of Montreal’s deputy director of cruises, Yves Gilson, as well as the captain of the Volendam and the Dutch consul in Montreal, Laurentius Oscar van Eerten, will participate in the celebrations.

The cruise ship Volendam carries the flag of the Netherlands. This is the first time he will be welcomed at the Port of Montreal, according to APM.
