Jules Viaud, an apprentice for two years in the SARL Menuiserie Mornet, in La Garnache (Vendée), obtained the silver medal in the departmental competition for Best Apprentice in France.

Aged 18, from Froidfond, Jules Viaud is preparing a CAP as a carpenter and manufacturer at the BTP-CFA in La Roche-sur-Yon. The subject imposed on apprentice carpenters was a service trolley. Jules’s has a rectangular top with drawer, a circular top below and rests on four legs. I used three species: oak, ash and cherry. The legs are in oak, the rectangular top which is 55 cm wide is made of a compass rose in three colors of wood. It took me around 130 hours to complete it outside of my working hours, but I was able to take advantage of the company’s tools. I’m happy, it’s the reward for the work , indicated the apprentice Jules. He said he wanted to work with wood after a “discovery” course in third grade. He will continue his training by preparing a CAP as a wood carpenter apprentice in the same company.

I had several apprentices who entered the departmental competition, but Jules was the first to obtain a medal. What’s interesting is to see his motivation, because he didn’t have to do it underlined Mathieu Mornet, his boss.

Jules Viaud is participating in the regional competition which takes place this Saturday, May 4 in Cholet.
