Home invasion: a man injured in a home in Jonquière

A man, aged in his early thirties, was reportedly injured Sunday in an alleged assault that occurred in an apartment near the Cégep de Jonquière, in Saguenay.

The police department was called to intervene a little before 5 p.m. in a home at the intersection of St-Hubert and de la Fabrique streets.

According to the Saguenay police, “several individuals broke into” the interior of the housing unit.

The severity of the victim’s injuries is unknown, but his life is not believed to be in danger. He was taken to hospital by ambulance.

“I want to reassure the population: there was no shooting in this event. The investigation will surely demonstrate whether there was [ou non] use of a weapon, but at the moment, I do not have that information,” indicated the spokesperson for the Saguenay Police Service (SPS), Dominic Gagnon.

As of midday Tuesday, only one person had been arrested in this case. Pascal Grandisson was charged with breaking and entering. Other leaders could be added.

The SPS has another suspect in its sights. An arrest warrant has been issued for another individual, whose identity has not been confirmed.

A link with the armed conflict?

“For the moment, it is too early to make links with other events relating to armed violence in Quebec,” said the SPS spokesperson. This hypothesis is however not ruled out. The police investigation continues.

The two suspects, who have been targeted until now, are known to police circles.
