APAD Étampes Sud-Essonne: SOS for stray cats

Since 2018, the APAD Association (Aid for the Protection of Animals in Distress) works tirelessly to limit the proliferation of stray cats. “We started with 50 cats but today we have more than 100 in foster homes and around 200 in the wild, all sterilized and identified,” explains Yvonne, the treasurer. However, despite these efforts, the situation is becoming critical.

« The number of stray cats continues to increase, and without sterilization, a female can have a litter every three months. So you imagine the overcrowding that this creates. » adds Anna, volunteer. This is why the association is launching an SOS: it is essential that owners do sterilize and identify their animals (male and female). Both are necessary to limit the increase in the number of stray cats and if it is not chipped or tattooedit risks being considered as abandoned.

APAD wishes to awareness residents on the importance of reporting any cat that wanders around quickly to avoid a uncontrolled overflow. « You can’t ignore a cat in the street. Even if you cannot adopt him, you can report him to us by email at [email protected] or by Messenger, or simply feed him temporarily by checking with the neighborhood if he belongs to anyone. You can also take him to the veterinarian who can check if he is identified, a process which is free. » says Anna.

For people with financial difficultiesaid exists for the sterilization and care of animals. THE SPA dispensary and the Animal Assistance Foundation offer free care for non-taxable people. In addition, certain associations, such as the Fondation Brigitte Bardot or 30 Million Friendsaccept a legacy to ensure the care of the domestic animal upon the death of its owner (procedure to be discussed with foundations and associations).

« We do collections once a month but that is not enough to feed them on a daily basis. », reveals Yvonne. The association accepts any form of aid: donations, food, shelter, volunteering or even a bequest of land or real estate, because it does not, for the moment, have any dedicated shelter. The needs remain enormous, especially in terms of veterinary costs, which represent 99% of their expenses.

Please note that donations allow you to benefit from a tax reduction of 66% of the amount paid.

You can find all the cats up for adoption on the Facebook “APAD Étampes Sud Essonne” or on their website www.apad-sud-essonne.com where you can also join to their cause or make a donation.

Do not remain indifferent to these little animals. By helping APAD, you will help save lives and limit the proliferation in our city.
