At a time when a new controversial video comes to haunt him, the leader of the British Columbia Conservative Party, John Rustad, believes that the New Democratic Party’s (NDP) attempts to decry him by conveying this content on social networks are a distraction David Eby’s mixed record.

Tuesday, the NPD relayed on X a new video in which John Rustad suggests that certain climate speeches aim to reduce the world population during an interview with Laura-Lynn Tyler Thompson, a former candidate for the People’s Party of Canada.

These comments were made as part of a discussion on nitrogen fertilizers, in a live broadcast (New window) on Laura-Lynn Tyler Thompson’s YouTube channel, March 21, 2023.

In the video, John Rustad, who was then a Conservative MP, explains that his exclusion from the BC Liberal Party is linked to his opposition to a federal measure to reduce these nitrogen fertilizers, even before his retweet questioning the science of the climate.

These fertilizers are used in 40% of the world’s food supply, John Rustad says in the video. Reducing their use could therefore lead to millions, even billions of people face starvationhe told Laura-Lynn Tyler Thompson.

For some reason this climate talk is about reducing [la production alimentaire]. I can only say that somewhere, they believe that we must reduce the world population. It’s an agenda against humanshe added in the video.

Since the start of the electoral campaign, on several occasions, comments made by John Rustad in recent years have been conveyed on social media by the NPD. John Rustad was particularly criticized for claiming that COVID-19 vaccine requirements were used to control the population.

Desperate leadership

Asked about the attacks NPD At a press conference on Tuesday, John Rustad said he saw it as an attempt to divert public attention on the part of the NDP leader: We have an affordability crisis, health systems that are collapsing, there is nothing in this province that has improved under David Eby.

He will do his best to distract [le public]because he does not want us to talk about his fileshe added.

He is already lying about what we are doing as a Conservative Party. I see it as evidence of weak leadership, a desperate leader, knowing he can’t stand up for what he does.

Asked about the existence of a conspiracy to reduce the world population, John Rustad did not deny his comments made in 2023, and reiterated his doubts about reducing the use of these nitrogen fertilizers, without responding directly to the question.

When I see these measures, these approaches, I look at them and ask myself why we would want to create these kinds of food security problems in the world. Enough people are already suffering in the world todayhe said.

Crazy conspiracy theories

Ahead of the first party leaders’ debate, New Democratic leader David Eby said Tuesday that he did not expect these crazy conspiracy theories on the internet be addressed by the Conservative leader and assured that voters’ priorities will be addressed.

He also stressed that he was not the only one with a political history, and that he would be happy to discuss that of John Rustad as an MP, which he described as a record health cutbacks and reductions in services, and increased costs.
