The fight against piracy and illegal streaming continues to intensify for Arcom, which has seen its number of blocking requests addressed to operators double.

Various measures have been put in place to fight against piracy and illegal streaming in France. If Arcom welcomes a drop in illicit audiences in 2023, it also takes stock of the number of interventions that were necessary as part of this fight.

Thus, in 2023, 10,544 domain names have been blocked by Free, SFR, Orange and Bouygues following a request from the audiovisual regulatory authority. “The agreement concluded on January 18, 2023 between the Association for the protection of sports programs (APPS), of a part and, the French Federation of Telecoms (FFTélécoms, Orange, Bouygues Télécom and SFR) which joins the Iliad group, on the other hand, has made it possible to significantly accelerateficatively the processing and execution by ISPs of blocking measures requested for updating by the
rights holders” affirms Arcom, displaying an average processing time for requests of 6 working days.

The majority of blocking measures concerned live streaming sites as well as around a hundred IPTV services. And since January 2022, the level of consumption of illicit live streaming is down 26% compared to 2021.
