Nantes (6e47 pt)
Greater Poitiers (9e42 pt)
The Grand Poitiers Handball season is coming to an end with a final trip, Saturday May 4 to Nantes, before the final match of the 2023-2024 financial year, on May 25 when Saran comes to Bois d’Amour. If the Poitevins no longer have anything to fear or hope for, they are not freewheeling.
Their last two results attest to this with a draw against Livry-Gargan (3e) and a victory against Cercle Paul-Bert de Rennes (4e). Enough to approach with confidence a perilous trip to a HBC Nantes reserve in full swing since it has been undefeated for seven games with a series of six victories and a draw at Rezé, the leader, during its last outing. “This team is made up of young players with high potential and a very consistent level of play. It plays very quickly, exploiting large spaces. The key will be our ability to counter them”, warns Benoît Juin, the Poitevin technician. Before specifying: “We have never lost to them in recent years. » In the first leg, Grand Poitiers even won largely (37-28).
The Poitevins will be all the more motivated as they will play as a curtain-raiser to the Liqui Molly Starligue meeting (1D division) between the HBC Nantes pennant team, double title holder of the Coupe de France and current 2e of the championship, in Chambéry, coached by Erick Mathé, the former coach of the PEC/JC women’s team. “We will have places to watch the match”, confides Benoît Juin. But there is no question for him and his men of doing sports tourism.
