A 76-year-old woman who was trying to cross a major boulevard in Montreal North was struck by a vehicle Thursday evening.

Montreal police were called around 11:15 p.m. for a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian that occurred at the intersection of Pie-IX and Henri-Bourassa boulevards.

According to initial information, the vehicle was traveling on Boulevard Pie-IX in a southbound direction before hitting the pedestrian who was trying to cross the road.

The police officers dispatched to the scene located the victim unconscious and injured in the upper body, according to Véronique Dubuc, spokesperson for the City of Montreal Police Department.

The septuagenarian was quickly treated by Urgences-santé and transported to a hospital center, while the 61-year-old driver suffered no injuries.

Initially, medical authorities feared for the victim’s life, but his health has since stabilized.

A security perimeter was erected to protect the scene and Pie-IX and Henri-Bourassa boulevards were closed in the south direction and in the west direction respectively.

Collision investigators went to the scene to analyze the scene and try to understand what happened.
