The City of Quebec announced an increase in the subsidy for the lighting of commercial streets for the 2024 holidays. The budget, which was initially $515,000, will now exceed $750,000.

This increase will allow business groups (RGA) to cover the increased costs related to the purchase, installation and maintenance of light decorations, while improving the installations already in place. This support is part of the Entrepreneurial Vision Quebec 2026, financed by the Capitale-Nationale Region Fund (FRCN).

“This additional support aims to meet the needs of local traders and make our streets more attractive during a key period of the year.”

David Weiser, responsible for economic development on the executive committee.

Each year, the City supports around ten projects as part of its Commercial Arteries Support Program, a component of the 2022-2025 Commerce Plan. This program aims to boost entrepreneurship and strengthen the attractiveness of local businesses during strategic periods such as the holidays. The Quebec Entrepreneurial Vision 2026, funded to the tune of $134.6 million by the FRCN, aims to promote entrepreneurship and innovation in the region. The fund, created in 2018, contributes to the economic autonomy of Quebec City and the vitality of its neighborhoods.

These new lights, as well as the decorations, will offer citizens and visitors a festive atmosphere throughout the holiday season, thus contributing to the liveliness of the city’s main commercial arteries.
