“I am losing my business,” warns Giuseppe Fallica, manager of the pizzeria Dell’etna, in Nantes. After 12 years of existence, it must close its doors, without knowing if they will one day reopen.

Near the town hallthe entire building in which it is located, as well as several adjoining buildings, are now prohibited from access because of the dry rot. A fungus attacks wood, causing it to lose all resistance and ultimately causing heavy damage to the affected building, or even causing it to collapse.

“Without any notice, we had to leave the restaurant”

On the evening of April 4, 2024, the city services, accompanied by the municipal police, came to announce the immediate evacuation of the building to Giuseppe Fallica.

“It hurt us. We were in the middle of preparing for the service at that time, me and my wife. Without any notice, we had to leave the restaurant,” he laments in front of the decrepit facade of the building.

This is only the beginning of the troubles for Giuseppe Fallica. With his activity at a standstill, he now has no income and, being registered as a self-employed person, he is not entitled to any unemployment benefit.

This rent, coupled with that of 750 euros for his apartment, makes the context increasingly complicated financially. “We didn’t expect a blow like this. »

“All I want is to get back to work.”

Faced with this situation, the restaurateur suspects that his pizzeria will probably not reopen its doors in its current location and will probably have to move.

All I want is to get back to work, that’s my top priority and what worries me the most. The town hall is supposed to help me find premises, but for a month I have had almost no news.

Faced with a total lack of perspective, he hopes that the municipality will help him find a solution quickly. “This situation causes permanent stress, my wife has nightmares about it. I myself am torn between hatred and sadness,” admits the pizzeria manager.

“Fortunately we can count on the support of family, friends and customers, but this situation cannot continue. »
