NASCAR Canada: the “big trophy” in Camirand’s sights

The 2024 NASCAR Canada season will begin on May 19 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Marc-Antoine Camirand has only one goal in his sights: to bring the “big trophy” home.

The Saint-Léonard-d’Aston driver came very close to winning the drivers’ championship for a second consecutive year in 2023, but the young Treyten Lapcevich (612 points) ended his dream season with the conquest of the championship, Camirand taking second place with 551 points.

“I’m really excited to get back into action soon!” We had an excellent season last year with four victories. Normally, with a season like the one we had last year, it’s enough to win the drivers’ championship, notes Marc-Antoine Camirand. On the other hand, Treyten Lapcevich had an excellent season. Hats off to him! But definitely, the goal this year is to bring home the big trophy. »

Lapcevich will not return to NASCAR Canada this season as he is trying his luck with the United States in the zMax CARS Tour. He will only participate in a few races in NASCAR Canada.

However, there will be no shortage of competition in NASCAR Canada with the return of Andrew Ranger, Louis-Philippe Dumoulin, Kevin Lacroix and Alex Tagliani, in particular.

A new road circuit car

Marc-Antoine Camirand has not been idle during the winter. In particular, he built a brand new road circuit car at his Camirand Performance workshop.

“This is no small task. With my team leader, since the start of our team three years ago, we have produced a car every year. We were at the stage of putting another road circuit car on the track. We will have the opportunity to take our first spins with this car. We have made small changes which, we hope, will be beneficial,” he explains.

The driver will also try to get a second consecutive victory in NASCAR on the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières (GP3R) circuit on August 11. “It’s the biggest race for me since we come from here and the sponsors, including GM Paillé, are very close too. »

At the GP3R, the one who has 15 victories, all series combined, at Trois-Rivières will also be in action in the Chevrolet Urban Challenge.
