Start of work on the Ondina cemetery: much-awaited rehabilitation and security of the site

This is a subject that was close to the hearts of many Bastiais. Since the night of March 6 to 7, 2015, the families of the deceased have lived in pain and in the pain of not being able to see their families in good conditions.

9 years after this first disaster, synonymous with cascading inconveniences, the Municipality is launching large-scale work at the beginning of May 2024 intended to completely rehabilitate and secure this collection site.

In order to carry out the work, the families of the deceased resting at the Ondina cemetery will all be contacted by letter informing them of the noise pollution and access constraints which will inevitably be deplored. Bastiais will also be kept informed of access times to the cemetery through regularly updated communication. The Town Hall services are available to users for any questions relating to the subject: from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. by telephone (04.95.55.97.51 or 04.95.55.97.52) or by email ([email protected] ).

After several field studies and several in-depth assessments, the content and nature of the work were known and the City was able to quickly get to work after that.

The reinforcement solutions chosen :

The project consists of the rehabilitation of existing retaining walls. Given the degraded state of the walls, they will be abandoned and new retaining systems are proposed according to the current configuration of each existing wall:

  • Zone M1 – M3 parking: demolition and reconstruction of L-shaped or box-shaped retaining walls
  • M4 – M10 and M15 – M20, as well as a northern part of the M13 and M14 walls: nailed wall reinforcement
  • M13 South – M 14 South: reinforcement by pulled secant micropiles
  • M11: Absence of reinforcement: Freestanding wall in current statebecause rehabilitation works have been carried out in this area.
  • M6-M10 – pool area

Beautification work:

The technical reinforcement and repair solutions envisaged for the retaining structures following the expertise will have a certain impact on the visual appearance of the site, both with regard to its immediate environment (for users) and -with respect to its distant environment.

Particular effort was made in particular to:

  • allow optimal integration of the development into its near and distant environment,
  • offer the Bastiais a peaceful place suitable for meditation.

Thus new developments with lower walls, pathways, covered walls and plantings will be deployed.
