Citizens of La Malbaie who complained about a telecommunications tower erected in the summer of 2023 won their case. The company Radio Mini-Page will have to reduce the height of the 109 meter structure by more than half.
The decision rendered by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) was relayed on Monday by the Bloc Québécois, while MP Caroline Desbiens supported residents in their protest.
This is excellent news for the citizens of La Malbaie, but also for all municipalities in Quebec which could be confronted with entrepreneurs who go beyond the rules
declared the elected official for Beauport—Côte-de-Beaupré—Île d’Orléans—Charlevoix, in a press release.
The Bloc Québécois points out that the developer failed to hold a public consultation before the construction of the tower. A consultation was organized, but only after the work was completed.
Quickly after the telecommunications antenna was put into operation, residents of the Sainte-Mathilde sector complained about the lights installed on the tower. In November 2023, the elected officials of La Malbaie also voted unanimously in favor of a resolution for the complete dismantling of the structure.
