“The time slot where we record the peak of accidents is between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m., with users finishing work or school and they are currently encountering changes in visibility, the drop in light” alerts Lieutenant-Colonel Patrick Martinez, commander of the Isère departmental road safety squadron. This time of year is, every year, a critical moment: “People do not necessarily have their lights on, analyze safety distances and speed less, this leads to accidents“.

Mortality no longer falls on the roads of Isère
Since January 1 (and until September 22, 2024), the Isère prefecture has counted 481 accidents on the roads of Isère, causing 40 deaths and 589 injuries. “It is undoubtedly possible to further reduce this mortality, which is multifactorial: this includes vehicle improvements, road improvements, repression and prevention.” lists Lt. Col. Patrick Martinez. “Speed is one of the major causes of accidents in the department alongside alcohol and drug use.“.
