A 57-year-old woman is said to be in stable condition after a fire that broke out in an apartment building Thursday evening in the Ville-Marie borough, in Montreal, a few blocks from Lafontaine Park.

Emergency services were called around 8:30 p.m. for a fire in a residential building located on Fullum Street, near Hochelaga Street.

Firefighters from the Montreal Fire Department dispatched to the scene located the victim unconscious inside the building.

The fifty-year-old, then in critical condition, was transported to a hospital to treat significant injuries which, however, no longer put her life in danger, according to the latest health report.

The investigation was transferred to the arson section of the Montreal City Police Department, said spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils.

“The fire was contained in the second floor accommodation,” previously mentioned Alain Laflamme, head of section 191 at SIM.

Although the circumstances surrounding this event are currently unknown, the cause of this incident could possibly be accidental, according to the SPVM.

SPVM investigators should travel in the morning to analyze the scene and try to determine the exact circumstances surrounding this incident.
