On the night of Thursday May 9, 2024, a serious incident occurred at Blaise Diagne International Airport. Flight HC 301, operated by Air Senegal and bound for Bamako, was involved in a runway excursion during its takeoff phase at 1:00 a.m.

According to a press release issued by the Communication Unit of Blaise Diagne International Airport, the plane, a B737/300 chartered from the company TRANSAIR, came to rest outside threshold 19 of the runway. The incident resulted in injuries to 11 of the 78 passengers on board, four of them serious. Six other passengers were slightly injured and are currently under observation at the airport medical services.

The airport authorities immediately activated the emergency plan, mobilizing all emergency services necessary for the evacuation and treatment of passengers. An investigation is underway to determine the precise circumstances of this incident. Aviation specialists and airline representatives are on scene to review flight data and interview crew members.

As a result of this accident, the airport was temporarily closed. It is planned to reopen in the coming hours, depending on the security arrangements that are made.
