This is a brand new football competition that will take place at the end of May. Former FC Barcelona player Gérard Piqué launches the Kings League World Cup : a seven-a-side football World Cup broadcast and promoted on the streaming platform Twitch. Each country has a team led by a streamer, that is to say a content creator on the platform. The French team is named “Football 2 street” in reference to the football cartoon of the same name and is led by “AmineMaTué“.

The event brings together big names in football and lesser-known young players. And a Norman joins the Blues squad: AF Virois defender Melvin Bachelet.

“I watched them on television, to be able to meet them is incredible!”

“I didn’t expect it, I was surprised, very happy too and proud to be able to represent France.” At only 20 years old, Melvin Bachelet will therefore play with the biggest names in football. First with the French team since the AF Virois defender is training this Thursday in Paris with his teammates including the two former internationals Samir Nasri and Jérémy Ménez. “I watched them in the French team,” remembers the young player, “They have a career, they have a name in football so to be able to rub shoulders with them is incredible.”

Big names also in the opposing teams and the organization: Neymar, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Eden Hazard, Iker Casillas and many others. “When we see names like these, we are obviously happy and playing against them is even better,” confides Melvin Bachelet.

Adapting to “another sport”: 7-a-side football

The competition starts on May 26 in Mexico. Until then, it’s time for training because it’s almost a new sport that you have to learn. “We’ll have to learn all the rules,” explains Melvin Bachelet, “because it’s really not classic football.” And we have to catch up a little because the Spaniards have already been playing this seven-a-side football for two years. However, the French have no intention of making an appearance in the competition, says the young Virois. “We want to bring the cup home, that’s what we’re going for.” Melvin Bachelet who meets the supporters on June 8 for the final. A competition entirely to follow on the Twitch platform.
