A police operation made it possible to find two suspects after the treatment of a man with a significant firearm wound, in Sainte-Angèle-de-Mérici, in Bas-Saint-Laurent, on Thursday.

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) was informed, around 9:30 a.m., of the event that occurred in a residence on rue Laurent-Thibeault, in this small municipality located in the MRC of La Mitis.

The victim, a 31-year-old man, was transferred to a hospital center for “serious” injuries but which “would not endanger his life”, according to the police force.

“We immediately launched a police operation with the aim of locating the suspect vehicle on the various roads in Bas-Saint-Laurent,” explains the SQ in a press release.

About an hour after the initial report, the latter was found in the area of route 132 in Notre-Dame-des-Neiges, about a hundred kilometers away.

A 23-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman from the greater Montreal area were arrested and questioned by the Major Crimes Investigation Division.

They remain detained and are expected to appear before a judge Friday on unspecified charges.

According to the SQ, it is “too early” to make a link between this event and the war for control of the drug market, which has been raging for several months in the greater Quebec region and which would also have had repercussions even on the North Coast.
