The family confirmed to TVA Nouvelles that they had received reimbursement for the $10,000 they had spent during the process of repatriating their loved one’s body.

This comes at a time when the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, apologized to the family on Wednesday.

“We appreciate that Minister Rodríguez has publicly apologized to the family and loved ones of this Canadian citizen and that he has agreed to reimburse the family for the cost of the repatriation service,” Global Affairs Canada said in an emailed statement. .

“We welcome the Cuban government’s strong commitment to rectifying this extremely unfortunate situation as soon as possible,” it added.

For her part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, Mélanie Joly, indicates in a publication on X that “Canada will continue to help the Jarjour family until this situation is resolved.”
