Carrasco back in Belgium? He speaks clearly about his future

Like many football stars, Yannick Carrasco decided to join Saudi Arabia last summer. At Al-Shabab, the Red Devil receives an annual salary of 13 million euros.

After exploding at AS Monaco, Carrasco joined Atlético Madrid before flying to China. A career choice that was heavily criticized at the time. After a two-year stint in the Chinese championship, he decided to return to Atlético. A choice that paid off since he won La Liga in 2021 with the Colchoneros.

Will he return to Belgium?

Since September 2023, the Red Devil has been thriving in Saudi Arabia. But will he end his career there? In an interview with Nieuwsblad, Carrasco spoke about his future: “My motivation is still the same but the ideas are different. I love football, I love playing it, I am competitive and that will be the case in every team I play for. It was the same when I played in China. I want to help on and off the pitch.”

Carrasco is still “only” 31 years old. A return to Belgium is still possible but it won’t be for now: “What motivates me in football? Everything. It’s like my family, it’s part of my life. I’m lucky to be able to do what I love. It was my dream to become a footballer and I’m very happy to have been able to do this job for so long and I hope to be able to do it for a few more years.”

KRC Genk

Carrasco was trained at Genk but he did not have the opportunity to play once with the first team. Will we see him one day in the Limburg club’s jersey in the JPL? Difficult to say at the moment, but nothing is impossible in football.
