Villefranche-de-Lauragais is particularly known for being crossed by a departmental road, the old Nationale 113, which connects to the Mediterranean Sea without taking the motorway. Today it is one-way, The main street of the town is used by many vehicles every day since motorists heading towards the Ville Rose from Aude mix with local traffic.

From Friday, September 27 at 2 p.m. until Monday, September 30 at 12 p.m.this artery will be closed to traffic and parking in its entirety: from Godefroy-Calès square to Armand Barbès street. This could cause some disruption to traffic in the city centre.

The Rue de la République will be pedestrianized

The reason for this closure to traffic of the Rue de la République is the organization of a large fair organized by the association of traders on Saturday, September 28. Pedestrian street – this is the name of this event organized for almost 30 years in Villefranche-de-Lauragais – is making its big comeback seven years after its last edition.

Although the event will be a little different from the one organized a few years ago, one major principle remains: The city’s main street will be closed to vehicles to make way for local merchants’ stands and customers throughout the day and evening on Saturday.

Restrictions also around Place Gambetta

Traffic and parking restrictions will affect Rue de la République, but also the surroundings of Place Gambetta which will also host stands at this event.

So, from Thursday, September 26 at 2 p.m. until Friday, September 27 at 4 p.m.motorists will not be able to drive or park from n°1 to n°12 of Place Gambetta and on the northern side road which runs alongside the town hall.

Traffic and parking will also be prohibited on the Liberty Square as well as Alsace and Marceau streets. However, an exemption will be in effect for local residents.

Avenue de la Fontasse is a two-way street

To compensate for the closure of Rue de la République, Traffic will be two-way on Avenue de la Fontasse between Friday, September 27 at 2 p.m. and Monday, September 30 at 12 p.m. Consequence: Parking will be prohibited along this road over the same period.

Moreover, Sarrail and Bélinguier streets will also be closed to traffic at the same time as Rue de la République. They will in fact be reserved for the passage of emergency services if necessary.

Finally, it should be noted that a portion of Rue de la République (between the Vesti Boutique de la Rouge and the Century 21 real estate agency) will be dedicated solely to parking for people with reduced mobility.
