Ourossogui, September 19 (APS) – The prefect of Matam, Tening Faye, suspended, Thursday, the demolition operations of houses in the Moderne 4 district, in the commune of Ourossogui.
“For security reasons, the demolition operations underway in the Moderne 4 district, located in the commune of Ourossogui, have been suspended,” the prefect said in a decree seen by APS.
The text adds that the town hall and the commander of the Ourossogui gendarmerie brigade are responsible for implementing this decision.
On Wednesday, the mayor of the commune of Ourossogui, Me Moussa Bocar Thiam, began operations to demolish houses in the area commonly called “Ari Koda”, on the outskirts of the city. Around ten uninhabited buildings were demolished in the presence of local residents.
According to municipal secretary Souleymane Thiam, “this operation aimed to demolish all uninhabited buildings as well as all those located on the public highway.”
“We have also been informed that these buildings have become a den of bandits, where thieves sometimes hide stolen objects. This is why the city hall carried out this operation,” he explained.
The neighborhood was not subdivided and had no water or electricity.
