The events took place at 5 a.m., when a small boat with more than 110 people on board took to the sea from Wimereux beach, according to the prefecture’s account.

In 2024, 15 people will die crossing the Channel

Twelve migrants lost their lives in 2023 while trying to cross the Channel, according to the Channel and North Sea Maritime Prefecture. That same year, 29,437 migrants reached the English coast illegally, compared to 45,774 in 2022, a record year, according to figures from the British Interior Ministry.
